Caring for curly wurly hair!

Right after perming, one is not supposed to wash his/her hair for at least 24hrs. This is to allow the chemicals to be better absorbed into the hair & hence a longer lasting perm! Immediately after I permed my hair, I was frantically looking around for a shampoo & conditioner specially catered for permed hair. As my hairdresser pointed out, the previous shampoo & conditioner I had used for smooth silky hair is too heavy for permed hair.

1 important step in caring for curled hair, other than the usual shampoo & condition has got to be the curling cream. When hair is semi-dry after shampoo, apply ample curl cream & twist the hair before allowing it to air dry. The curl cream not only sets the curls, it also gives hair the wet & bouncy effect.

Below are some products I use

1. L'Oreal Curl Contour shampoo
2. Beverly Hills Control taming conditioner
3. L'Oreal Curl Contour rinse-out hair mask
4. L'Oreal Total Repair shampoo
5. L'Oreal Total Repair conditioner
6. Merit Miracle Argan Curl Cream
7. Korean Curl Cream (bought from JasonSally)

Perming my hair @ JasonSally

My close girlfriends would have heard me contemplating a perm job for the longest time. After living with straight long hair for 25 years, just a few weeks shy of turning 26, I finally went ahead with perming my hair. The long delay was attributed to my concern of damaging my hair, with any sort of chemical treatment done to hair and/or scalp, you are essentially "forcing" your hair to behave in another manner. A manner which is not typical. Having done my research, a badly done perm will cause the hair to become dry. Imagine a head of maggie mee, oh god the horror!

After bugging Rachelle with my endless questions, I finally made an appointment at her saloon. To perm hair my length would require a good 5 - 6 hour, I went to the hair saloon armed with the fiance's trusty iPad & my butt bore the full brunt of the long long hours sitting on the chair. Thanks to Rachelle's sister, Sarah, the perm turned out to be fantastic! Also thanks to her wicked sense of humor which kept me entertained throughout the day, the long 5 - 6 hours passed by without much pain hahaha.

Honestly, I really do not foresee myself back with straight hair! The bouncy curls are so lovable. Much to my delight, my hair does not look dry or fried like it has just been struck by lightning (this is what a bad perm can do). In fact it is no different from when I had straight hair, except now those gorgeous curls are in place, the texture of my hair is still pretty much the same (my maggie mee concerns, phew!). When I had straight hair, I hated how flat it looks. Now with permed hair, I just love how luscious & voluminous my hair is! And I really love how professionals are so darn good at blow-drying hair. Having 2 hairdressers fussing over & blow-drying your hair, hard not to feel like a superstar hehe!

To make my day even better, I actually won 3rd prize from the shop's ongoing 32nd Anniversary sure win lucky dip, a revitalizing scalp / hydrating hair treatment + hair mask! Too awesome! With 2013 coming to an end, year 2014 is approaching in 28 days time, what better way to welcome the new year with a smashing new hairstyle? Quick, call & make your appointment now! :)

Jamie's Italian, Singapore

After much hype, we finally mustered the courage to brave the long queue for TGIF dinner at Jamie's Italian. True enough, we waited an hour for the table. As you can imagine, I was so damnnnnn hungry! I can eat a whole cow. I ordered Seafood Bucatini because I am a seafood lover & pasta cooked with white wine & tomato sauce sounds like a pretty safe choice. The boyfriend had Grilled Chicken, also another safe choice, guess we aren't huge adventure takers, especially after waiting so darn long for a table. Imagine if the food came out to be sucky, we would be devastated!

Seafood Bucatini is a seafood cooked in a bag, pretty much like Pizza Hut's Parchment Pasta. Pasta in Jamie's is handmade daily & this pasta was different from any other I have had elsewhere. Probably also because the pasta is a tube with a hollow center. Seafood comprised of scallop, mussels, squid & prawns. Decent pasta, nothing amazing though.

Grilled Chicken was a tiny portion, the chicken tasted burnt, not sure if that was the intention though. The meat is dry & we could not taste any marinate in the chicken. This safe choice fell way below our expectations.

For dessert we had a Ji Warm Brownie, the looks of this dish far exceeded its taste. The brownie was dry & our request to the waitress to drizzle chocolate sauce over the brownie was rejected :( You know how good food always leaves an unforgettable impression? Well, when we were trying hard to swallow this dry brownie, other places which serve awesome brownies popped into our mind. Namely, Harry's Bar - Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice-Cream & Big O Cafe - Ice-Cream Fudge Brownie

Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar

Another brunch place discovered!

Met up with a bunch of ex-colleagues at Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar. Pretty decent food at an affordable price, along busy Orchard Rd! Probably quite a walk if you were taking public transport.

For the record, I love brunch. Scrambled eggs, sausages, I would take that anytime any day!

Moo Bar & Grill

Had our TGIF dinner at Moo Bar & Grill to enjoy their one-for-one Seafood Platter promotion. The place was packed with people drinking (well, Friday night after all). Without a reservation, it would be impossible to get a seat. Managed to convince the waitress to allow us to change the free Seafood Platter to Crab Croquette as 2 Seafood Platters will be too much for us.

The Homemade Soup of the Day - Broccoli soup was more of an acquired taste, not really my cup of tea as it leaves a funny aftertaste. I would prefer eating broccoli in its original state, not blended into soup. Next dish was Atlantic Blue Swimmer Crab Croquette, portion was smaller than what I would expect. Again, the dish was forgettable. The Seafood Platter was quite a disappointment - mussels were not fresh & the portion is small. You would get better value & taste from Fish & Co or Manhattan Fish Market.
